When do babies transition to toddlers?

I'm beginning to think that the transition happens around one year. And I'm thinking I'm going to be blessed with some awful tantrums! It seems Bubba, when he doesn't get his way, has taken to sitting down, throwing his head backwards, and screaming. To the point that he hits his head hard on whatever is behind him! Is this a preview of the Terrible Twos?
